Do YOU have what it takes?Hillel's executive board is completely student run, so YOU have the ability to make a huge impact on campus as well as become a student leader! Hillel board positions are a great way to not only get involved in Hillel and truly make an impact on campus, but its a great resume booster. No prior experience or special skill is needed for most positions, and it's actually not a large time commitment. Board members are required to meet once per week at the weekly board meetings as well as be at Hillel events. Some positions require a little bit of outside work, but not too much. The president of Hillel has one major job - to keep Hillel running smoothly. While there is no specific function that the president must perform, they must be able to fill various roles, pick up any slack that may occur while in their tenure, and properly delegate tasks to various board members. He or She is also the face of Hillel to parents, students, the University, and to other outside organizations. They may meet with various other organizations and University Departments. The president is the boards leader and as such is responsible for all of Hillel's actions. Requirements: Prior leadership experience and enthusiasm, preferably at least one previous year of board experience. You need JavaScript enabled to view it Publicity The publicity chair is responsible for generating the advertisements, as well as implementing those advertisements through various mediums to create awareness for a certain event or Hillel in general. These mediums include print (flyers, handbills, breeze advertisements, table tents, etc), online (JMU and community news postings, mass emails, etc), radio (JMU WXJM and local outlets), and more. This is ideal for smad majors to enhance their portfolio. Candidates are encouraged to be proficient in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Office - however this is not required. Membership The membership chair is responsible for bringing more people to our events, as well as keeping people coming back. This includes getting information on what people want to see and do in Hillel, as well as ensuring that the board knows what the demands of Hillel membership are so that they can be implemented. The membership chair works closely with the social chair so that these events can take place. This role also has the responsibility to develop and implement (if needed), or to continue recruitment and retention programs. Social The social chair is responsible for developing, creating, and implementing new and fun social events for all of Hillel. The chair will contact, set up, and execute all of these events (with the help of the rest of the board of course) and determine what events are the most popular. He or she is responsible for maintaining a schedule of the events as well as keeping some minor statistics about them. You need JavaScript enabled to view it External The job of the external chair is to contact speakers, performers, or any other person/organization outside of JMU Hillel and James Madison University. The chair is responsible for finding and booking at least two speakers in the fall semester, as well as one speaker in the spring semester. The external chair is chiefly responsible for Hillel's annual Holocaust Remembrance Week occurring in the spring semester. Mostly this job consists of contacting various agents to find guests, making sure that all guests requirements are met, and executing the actual event. Religious The religious chair is responsible for keeping in contact with Temple Beth-El for any events and religious communication, as well as with other persons (Rabbi's, Chefs, etc) that are involved with any aspect of religious activities. He or she ensures that Hillel has an event on all major and most minor holidays. The biggest event for the religious chair is collaborating with CCM for the interfaith Passover dinner. Other events include the High Holidays, Sukkot, Simcha Torah, Tu BishVat, Chanukkah, and Israeli Independence Day, as well as bringing in guests for religious purposes. The other main duty of the religious chair is to run everybody's favorite - Shabbat Dinners! Treasurer The treasurer's primary job is to ensure that Hillel's finances are adequate for all of the programs that we run. The treasurer is responsible for obtaining grants for various programs as well as for the general fund. He or she will research for grants and be in charge of at least one fundraiser per term in office. The treasurer also reimburses members when needed, and keeps meticulous details on our budget using special budgeting software.
