I live in Oradell, NJ which is in northern NJ, right outside of New York City. I am dedicated to being President of Hillel and was treasurer for the past two years. Along with my involvement in Hillel, I am a member of the Pre-Physical Therapy Society. Activities I enjoy taking part in are soccer, waterskiing, the gym and shopping. My favorite Jewish holiday is Rosh Hashanah because I get to eat sweet apples and honey and when I was not home the past two years for the holiday my mother Fed Exed it to me with a challah. My favorite thing about Hillel is the Shabbat Dinners because after a hectic week I get to relax and catch up with the special friends I have made in Hillel. Social:I am Allison May, and I am a second year marketing student from Vienna, Virginia. My favorite Jewish holiday is Purim and my favorite Hillel events are the Shabbat dinners.As Social chair I hope to plan fun and new event for Hillel members. My name is Katy Snyder and I am a sophomore psychology major with an anthropology minor from Virginia Beach, VA. I am currently Religious Chair on JMU’s Hillel Executive Board. My job is to plan Shabbat dinners for Hillel members to enjoy, plan the Interfaith Passover Seder, and have another religious events that college students will enjoy while being away from home. My favorite Jewish holiday is Rosh Hashanah because I love going to Temple and being with my whole family. My favorite Hillel events are the ones that include friendly faces and food, which include Kline’s ice cream nights and Shabbat dinners!Membership:Hey! My name is Marcus Greene, and I'm a Sophomore Economics and Philosophy and Religion Major from Herndon, Virginia. I'm the Membership Chair which means I meet with future Jewish JMU students and communicate with current members. Everyone else stole my favorite Jewish Holiday, but I do love getting to see family over Rosh Hashannah. My favorite Hillel events are ones with good food and fun. So basically all of them. Treasurer:Hi, my name is Beth Mannella and I am a sophomore from Morrisville, PA, about 45 minutes north of Philadelphia. As your new treasurer for Hillel, I plan to use my growing knowledge as a finance major toward this position. My favorite Jewish holiday is Rosh Hashanah because this past year, I went home with a good friend from JMU and my Birthright trip, and spent the Jewish holiday with her family and friends. It was really fun experiencing such an important holiday with a different family. I have a few favorite Hillel events but my number one is Kline's!!!! Ice cream is one of my favorite food groups and we always have fun eating the best ice cream in Harrisonburg together! This year, I am a Resident Adviser, I continue to eat peanut butter and jelly daily, and I am working on planning my next trip to Israel. Publicity:Hello! My name is Samantha Zito and I am a Sophomore Nursing Major from Arlington, Virginia. I am the Publicity Chair on the Hillel Board, in my position my goal is to keep Hillel members, their families and the JMU community as a whole informed on all the social and religious events Hillel is putting together. My favorite Jewish Holiday is Rosh Hashanah because of the family time and home cooking. The Hillel event I most enjoy are the Shabbat dinners that always promise good food and a lot of friendly faces!
Secretary:Hi guys! I'm Matthew and I'm the Secretary for JMU's Hillel. Currently, I am a Sophomore majoring in Public Policy and Administration and minoring in Spanish. I'm also from New Jersey, which makes our diverse Jewish community on campus even more diverse! If I had to pick my favorite Jewish holiday, it would definitely have to be Passover because of all the gathering that we do during the holiday. The bondness of Jews being together brings us closer and a stronger Jewish community, something that I hope to accomplish with Hillel. If you have any questions regarding Hillel, just ask! External: Hey everyone! My name is Jackie Hedeman and I am currently a sophomore at JMU. I’m a communications major with an HRD minor. I live in Mendham, New Jersey which is less than an hour outside of NYC. My favorite Hillel event would have to be Shabbat dinners, because let’s face it, who doesn’t love to eat, especially with great friends? They are a great way to meet new people, make connections, and give me something to look forward to. My favorite Jewish holiday is Purim because you get to dress up in ridiculous costumes, play with noise-makers, and eat hamentashins. I love playing frisbee, dancing, and being with my friends as much as I can! Faculty Advisor :Hello! My name is Kevin Apple, and I am the faculty advisor for Hillel. I'm originally from Cleveland, Ohio. And I received my PhD in psychology from Ohio University in 1997. Currently, I am an Assistant Department Head in the Psychology Department. I currently teach the following courses: Psychological Statistics, Psychological Research Methods, and the Psychology of the Holocaust. I guess my favorite Jewish Holiday is Purim. I enjoy celebrating it with my wife and 2 young children. We all love the celebrations, costumes, and of course the hamantashen. |
